Retirement extension

Persons who are 50 years old or above and which fulfill the required criteria
can be eligible for a 1 year extension based on retirement.

Prerequisite are:

Valid Non-O visa ( without overstay ) or valid extension.
Up to date address registration.

Required papers:

Completely filled in TM 7 form.  

Copies from following passport pages:

Detail page
Current visa/extension
All extensions from last Non-O visa or transfer stamp to new passport. (If applicable)
Last entry stamp
TM6 departure card (If applicable)

Passport size picture.

Proof of financial status :

Bank balance option:
Minimum of 800.000 Baht in Thai bank account (in your own name) for at least 2 months before the application date.

After the application date a minimum of 800.000 Baht in Thai bank account (in your own name) for at least 3 months and a minimum of 400.000 Baht for the remainder of the year until your next application date is required. (in conjunction with the 800.000 Baht for 2 months before the application date)
Please be aware that normal saving accounts are preferred. A fixed account can only be used if the money is available on a daily bases.
Signed and stamped bank letter AND Signed and stamped bank statement showing the required money and duration before application date.
( Max 7 days for the bank papers and with updated bank book on the application date and please make sure that both bank certificate and statement have the same balance)
Copy updated Thai bank book name page and last 12 months transactions. (Make a small transaction before updating the bankbook so a new transaction date will appear.
But it is highly advised to obtain all the bank papers on the day of the application as this can be required by the immigration officer.

OR

Income option:
Letter from Embassy/Consul certifying at least 65.000 Baht a month. (Max 6 months Old)

Supporting documents of the income may be requested by the immigration officer.
Copy bank book name page and last 12 months transactions. 
(It is strongly advised to copy all used pages as this is often requested by the officers.)

OR

Combination of Bank Account and Income:   ( PHUKET SPECIFIC AS OF NOV 2020)
A combination of bank account balance and income can be used as long the total (Bank Balance and Income combined) is more than 800.000 Baht for at least 12 months prior the application date with the following papers,
Certificate from Embassy/Consul. (Max 6 months Old)
(Supporting documents of the income may be requested by the immigration officer.) 
The same papers, Bank letters and copies of bankbook ( as mentioned in the income option) are required for the combination option.

People without the embassy  income certificate can still use the combination option but they need to keep at least 400.000 Baht in their bank account for the whole year.
They have to prove that the remaining balance to reach the 800.000 Baht is transferred from overseas to their Thai bank account on a monthly basis with proof of each monthly international transfer.
National Pension certificates from UK, USA, Australia are NOT recognized as income proof WITHOUT a certificate from the respective embassy / consulate
The following proof of the overseas transfers are required:  Signed and stamped bank certificate AND signed and stamped bank statement for the last 12 months and Copy of the bank book of the last 12 months.

If people don’t have 12 overseas transfers they can contact the immigration office to discuss their situation to see what the options are.

Medical Insurance:

From October 2020 an medical insurance is required for every retirement extension if it is based on a original Non-OA visa (Issued at the Thai Embassy in your home country) following the criteria explained below than it has to be shown and included in the extension based on retirement.
– If the Non-OA visa from your home country is issued In or BEFORE 2017 then the health insurance is NOT required for your extension.
– If the Non-OA visa from your home country is issued in 2018 or later but the last entry date is before 1 October 2019 then the health insurance is NOT required for your extension.
– If the Non-OA visa from your home country is issued in 2018 or later but the last entry date is AFTER 1 October 2019 then the health insurance is IS required for your extension.

People who required the health insurance and who are not able to get the health insurance due to their age can discuss this with the officers in charge during their application in order to receive an exemption if necessary.

If the retirement extension is based on a (single entry) Non-O visa or from a conversion from Non-B or based on marriage etc then the health insurance is NOT required for the extension based retirement application.
Please contact the Immigration volunteers to check your situation and to see if you need the health insurance in case it is not clear for you.

Extension application can be submitted within the last 30 days of the current visa/extension.
If joined account is used (with marriage certificate) only 50% of balance is used.
Only saving or fixed accounts where the money is at any time available are accepted.
